How long does the menapause last for?

started when i was 40 now 47 my hot flushes have gone and no period for 2 year does this meen i have been through it and survived. thanks xx

Yes it does and you are so lucky to sail through it i am 47 and still there hot flushes or flashes as some call it not nice.
They say if you have had no period for 12 months you are ok did your doctor give you an alternative to HRT as it is young not to have anything.
I take black goish from health shop as I cant take HRT and it helps a lot.
My mom finished early and never had anything and now has arthritis so get it checked out if you need anything for bones ect.

There is a blood test you can have to see if you are going through menopause. You started early though I have heard of women starting menopause as early as 35. It can last 10-15 years.

eerrrrr. isnt menopause like from when you stop getting your period untill you die??

i dont mean that you will suffer all the sypmtoms of menopause untill you die, but instead its just the name of that stage when a woman stops gettiung her periods??
and that stage lasts untill you die...

If you have been period-free for two years, then it sounds like you have gone through the menopause already.

You didn't start menopause when you were 40, because menopause doesn't last 7 years. Menopause is just the complete cessation of periods for at least a year. The years leading up to menopause where you may see hormonal imbalances, have difficulty conceiving, etc. is called the peri-menopause. Peri-menopause is a term that should not be confused with menopause.

Official definition says no period for a year, so you should be well and truely through it. Congratulations, now get back to enjoying your life, remember they used to say ' life begins at 40!'

If you've stopped getting yur period, it wont come back ever, lucky you. You'll never have another period again, you must have run out of eggs or something.
