I've come off the pill after 6 years on it non-stop and I've heard that its a common thing for it to take a while to go back to being regular, does anyone have any idea how long this could take, and more importantly, why this is so? Does this mean that the pill is really bad for your system?

There are few long term issues with pill, and it has certainly been around long enough for any that there were to be spotted. Some women have a normal period just 4 weeks after stopping the pill. I have also seen a number of women ovulate and get pregnant before their first normal period can occur!
IT DEPENDS ON THE WOMAN AND HOW REGULAR SHE WAS BEFORE THE LONGEST I HAVE HEARD OF WAS 3 MONTHS. ARE YOU USING ANOTHER TYPE OF CONTRACEPTIVE? ARE YOU ON ANY MEDICATION? IF SO THIS ALL HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE LENGTH ALSO. HOPE THIS HELPS.
the pill gives you what they call a fake period, it regulates your hormones and makes you regular as clock work. not that bad really and it does offer some protection from ovarian cancer. it can take a while for you periods to return to normal as you've now stopped taking articficial hormones and are now relying on your own cycle. your body needs time to get used to the adjustment just as i would if you was starting the pill.
It can take up to 6 months for you body to get back to normal. My wife is a midwife so she knows about womans bits
When you come of the pill, it can take anything from 1 month to approximately 1 year for your periods to return to normal. Depending on your age that is. The pill is not bad for your system. I wished they would send it to all these 3rd world countries to prevent pregnancy!
i took the pill for 6 years after my first son and when i wanted another i was told it only takes 1 month after you stop to back to normal and it was right i got pregnant that same month, hope that helps
I came off the pill 8 months ago after neing on it for 4 years and im still not back to normal. I have had two periods, one in jan and one in feb bit i havn't had anything since. Also when i do ovulation tests the result is aways negative. It is very frustrating i just want things back to normal! However I have been to the doctor and he says that this is perfectly normal and to just 'give it time'.
